Grid project

Before!
         After!

I had so many different ideas for this project- I went to Home Depot for some more insight...then I spotted the air filters on a display table. I thought perfect, It has a grid within a grid! Then the idea of a lamp shade evolved as I went a long!
First, I detached the filter from it's card board exterior, then painted an abstract & colorful design on the interior filter. When I finished, I made the cardboard into a cylinder. I also cut the filter into 6 different squares. I then pieced it back together, in a mismatch order, within the cylinder. Lastly, I placed it over my less exciting, pre existing lamp.

  1. Great, I like how you painted it as one piece then cut it up and rearranged the squares. Also like how it serves an alternate function.

  2. Awesome job!

Very clever idea on using a filter grid concept to make a lampshade. You actually have three grids in one package, the white interior fold, the metal wire, and the gray exterior, along with custom rearranged squares.

You did a great rearranging job, especially the way you kept the three grid designs, only change shape of a flat dimesion square (original layout of the filter) to 3-D cylinder.

Great colors as well. I loved how you made abstract color strokes on the white interior.

Only suggestion is can you try to post a picture of the lamp shining in the darkness. I am curious to see how the light blends with the color and shape of the filter in the complete dark.

  4. I absolutely love this idea! I'm mad at myself for not thinking of it! This is so good...I would definitely buy it. I love the way you colored the filter, it almost looks tie dye from a distance. Fantastic job. I want one!

  5. Maureen, this is so cool! I didn't get a chance to hear you talk about it in class, but I absolutely love it. The shape is sophisticated, the way you used overlapping grids is brilliant. I really think the way you cut the image up and put it back together makes it all the more interesting. beautiful!

  8. Your idas was so awesome! It was totally creative and it is even cooler because you did not even anticipate making a lamp until the middle of your progress.

I loved your use of color and design on the air filter you used as well. It was a really good idea to use that. Fantastic job!

  10. I would buy this if I saw it in the store, it is so pretty. I bet in person it looks really awesome when it's lit up. I like how you used such an ordinary, everyday life object and made it into something beautiful.

  11. This was a great idea, and very practical as well. Did you plan on keeping it set up as the lampshade? very original outlook onto a usually unnoticed piece of our everyday lives. Great job.
