The theme of my performance art piece is "Tech-less".....
Unfortunately I came up with my idea after seeing and hearing about people being homeless...reinforcing the idea of being helpless. Many people throughout Tampa and St. Augustine panhandle...so I decided to give it try but instead, I was tech-less and without my cellphone. I was trying to send the message that people rely so heavily on technology that we feel helpless when we don't have it...especially our cellphones.

ReplyDeletei feel like your video really touched a major issue/trend in society today. I actually forgot my cellphone at home over thanksgiving break so i experienced your "phoneless, helpless" whole scenario. i felt naked without a cellphone which is a pretty sad issue that im sure almost everyone would agree with. There was alot of meaning behind your video. great job
ReplyDeleteI really liked the idea you had. "Techless!" Very good performance. I just wished I could have seen more coverage of the people who interacted with you and prehaps a little more perspective with your performance as well (being in a crowd or more populated area of people being mixed aged. This is just my opinon, because I really got interested in your concept and how technology is the craze and part of the fabrication of our life now, especially among the young generation.

your "techless" piece was a very interesting take on the homeless sign holding. i loved that people actually wanted to give you their cell phone, the tour guide on the train! great stuff. i only wonder if so many would have been reluctant to help you if you have dressed as a homeless person and made your appearance more questionable. other than that, i really enjoyed watching this.
ReplyDeleteIf I saw you sitting on a corner with a sign like that I would definitely look twice. It's funny how people always have their cell phones on them and feel "lost" without them. I like how you interpreted this idea, being very blunt about it by putting it on a sign.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable and interesting idea! I loved the "Tech-less" signs... it really makes one think about how much we use technology today and how it just consumes us and when we're without technology for an hour we feel like we're dying! Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour project was so funny! So many people can relate to your theme because when we are phoneless we feel so disconnected with the world. People's reponses were even better. I loved the idea of being "tech-less" and paralleling that to being homeless. Our generation totally considers tech-less to be homeless.
